Retention of the old database?

    Is there a way to preserve the old navigation database still present in the general release FS4? Can 2 copies of the sim be loaded and one frozen out of updates as an example or can some database file be copied and substituted at will?

    I want to use the old systems with a reasonable number of NDBs and some of the current approaches look uninteresting, Livermore KLVA for example has lost its locator NDB LV 374.00 and the VOR ECA 116.00 is gone.

    I have copies of lots of old navigation material more compatible with the present (old) database.

    No, the old data is incompatible and uses slightly different structuring as well. So the binary data may be interpreted differently when using incompatible data, creating undefined behavior. When NDBs are no longer there then they are probably decommissioned in the real world and no longer exist.
