We recently ran a test flight on short final into Tromsø (ENTC) to check how wind speed decays from cruise altitude down to the runway threshold. With 24 kt configured in the weather menu, the ND showed 24 kt at higher altitudes, which then gradually decayed down to 12 kt right at touchdown (~33 ft AGL).
I'm curious about how the physics engine handles this boundary layer behind the scenes. Does Aerofly use a standard logarithmic wind profile for surface friction, or is it dynamically calculated based on local terrain roughness and airport elevation? I'd love to know if open, flat coastal fields (like EHAM or LTFM) experience a different decay rate compared to mountainous or fjord environments like ENTC or LOWI. Also, is the wind speed set in the weather menu meant to represent the free-stream wind aloft or the standard 10-meter METAR surface wind?
