Cannot play FS2 because of downloading

  • I have been downloading the HiRes freepack for a day or so now and have been able to play FS2 with no problem.
This morning I went to play and Steam is telling me that my game will be ready to play in 1day 13 hrs. I understand that the download is going to take me a long time, but why has it stopped me from playing the game. I need advice on what settings I need to change in Steam so I can play the game while downloading the DLC. What has suddenly changed this morning?
I already have the Game installed plus 2 payware DLCs and have no problem playing before.

  • This might work......

    I've never tried it, so.......

    Go to Library

Right click on Aerofly FS 2

    Click Properties

Under Steam background downloads tick the drop-down which reads: Always Allow Background Downloads.

  • Thanks but that isn't working. A bit of background info: I noticed yesterday that the opt into Beta was not ticked, so i ticked it to get the beta. When i was downloading the HiRes I saw in my Steamapps download section that it was just Scenery/Images/USA that was downloading. This morning I see in the download section that all the game files are now introduced although currently are empty except for the scenery/images which is still downloading. I don't know what effect my opting in to beta has done. Anyway I am peeved off because I want to play but steam is constantly telling me now i have to wait a day and a half. The game is already installed. I cannot play in offline mode either. As soon as i hit Pause for the download and click on either Play in Steam or try the desktop shortcut it starts to download again.
I hate Steam, always have done !!

  • Yeah, this is a definite Steam thing. I never had that issue because all my Aerofly downloads were only a few hours, and I just went to bed or did other things.

Over a day of downloading? I would likely cry. :(

  • Pffffft! That's a Steam employee trying to pass the buck and move onto the next guy.

  • Yes I agree but no advice coming from ipacs either. Yesterday I tried the Clear Download cache in Steam but that set my download time back to over 2 days! I don't trust the time statement because the download folder already had 22 GB in it.
I want ipacs to tell me why I can't play the game while it appears I am only downloading an additional DLC. This is crazy. I took 2.5 days to download the original and 2 DLCs, played 4hrs, now I can't play for another 2 days. 4 hrs play in over 5 days!

  • I agree but no support from Steam available even in the discussion forum. No luck either with Off line. Thinking of ditching it as my patience is ebbing rapidly. I will let it finish this 54 GB download over the next day or so and the problem persists I will ask for a refund.
    Thanks for your help/suggestion anyway.

  • Well I did accidently bump into the probable solution for this while messing with Steam.

If you go look at the upper left corner of your Steam Game "Library" you will see the word "Steam"

One of the dropdowns from that is "Settings"

Under that, you will find "Downloads"

Click "Allow downloads during Gameplay" and I believe that should fix your issue.

Maybe Ipacs will put this in their Knowledge base!

Y ahí me he quedado.
