Hi there,
in several youtube videos and reviews I have seen an incomplete use of the navigation map.
Therefore I made a small tutorial for navigation giving an example for route planning.
Is this of any help?

Thanks Rodeo,
I learned a lot from reading your tutorial. I was using a combination of Nav and Locate pages to build the flight plan. Thanks for spending the time and making the effort.
I wonder if we can find a place for User Tutorials? If so, we could put this one there and then add JandE's A320 tutorial.

Ray
An updated user manual is coming soon
It will have tutorials and detailed information for all Aerofly FS 2 functions.

Excellent news. I wish I knew enough to include this information in the Avsim review.

Looking forward to reading the review!! Is it out soon?
Nice tutorial! Well done!
Another method to use is to skip the departure and arrival buttons at the bottom and to simply click directly on the airport you want to use for either departure or arrival. On the right you will get a list with all available runways with departure AND arrival icons behind them. (If a VOR is nearby you might also first get a list from which you have to choose the airport.) Click on either the departure or arrival icon and you're done.
Clicking on the map to select the desired airport is a bit more convenient (imho) than clicking on the departure or arrival icons and having to pick the airport you want from a list. You also don't have to zoom in and move the map around that much in order to get the desired airport in or at the top of the list on the right: if you use the departure and arrival buttons your desired airport has to be in or around the middle of the map. But with the method mentioned above you can even zoom the map all the way out and create a flight between two airports that are on opposite sides of the map with just a few clicks.
But well, either method works like a charm: the AFS2 planner is very easy and convenient!!!
Hi collegues,
thanks for your replies.
JvanE, you are absolutely right and I may add this to the tutorial as a second approach.
My primary idea was an easy, step by step solution. And I selected a very short route since a beginner should not start with transcontinental flights.
My plan was, to use this route from Sacramento to San Francisco for more tutorials about instrumental flight and ILS landing.
Based on JvanE's great A320 tutorial, but added with cockpit screenshots and technical explanations.
As soon as somebody understands what he has to do, he can use it for his own flights.
BUT, since drhotwing1 announced an updated manual with tutorials I will hold for the moment.
Perhaps I can visit him next week and talk to him personally? [Blocked Image: http://www.smilies.4-user.de/include/Frech/smilie_frech_006.gif]

Ah, very clever idea to base various tutorials around one specific flight!
Concerning the Airbus tutorial: you might want to hold on for the moment indeed because the announced manual and tutorials will also include an updated and more detailed (though still basic) tutorial for the Airbus! Might save you some or even a lot of work.

...
Yeah,
for planned following tutorials I added the VOR and selected a runway with ILS.
I even thought about a tutorial for the location menu and following vfr landing.
The whole idea is to make reasonable flights in the simulator instead of describing all functions.
But let us see the IPACS work first.
