As the title suggests, the Settings field for extending the airbrake is there, but none for retraction.
However this means you have to keep pushing the "extend" button to keep it open.
Perhaps a toggle would work, but a separate retract would make a nice update.
Oh, and for us Hot Dogs... a bitta smoke effect in the Pitts would be great

yes you have to hold the button, or assign it to an axis and move the axis.
What you can also do is scroll over the airbrake handle in the aircraft's cockpit. That way you can also arm the ground spoilers.
The switch for the smoke is already implemented... It's just that the smoke is missing, so I believe the switch is off per default as well.

In a fast jet, this is not an option!
I have it assigned to the spoiler/airbrake axis on the throttle of my X52. Works like a charm, since you can open airbrakes as far as you need. Especially in gliders that is important.
