How about testing a small area in New Zealand. If it works out maybe we can convince our A-Team to do some serious cultivation and a few airports. We will need some improved Elevations first.

let me think about it ...

Thanks for getting back to me, yes I agree accurate mesh makes or breaks the photo scenery as discovered in my Great Britain Project. I wonder if there was enough interest in a New Zealand Project how many would be keen to help out?
I would help.

Hi everyone,
I'll commit to do an airport or two. (No custom buildings, though. I'm not that talented with 3ds Max...)

I’m not sure what help you would need, but, I do know that NZ has always been a popular flight sim destination. Coastlines, water, hills and mountains, valleys, and lots of airports.

Hi Ray,
Agreed, a beautiful destination.
Someone might just need to come in behind me and clean up what I produce to make it more fit for human consumption. 😁

What about Austria, France, Denmark, Belgium ...
Italy ( i hope) is coming these days ?

Thanks Karl
What I miss most with our present limitations for airport building are the ramps and taxiway. We will have XREF airport gates and bridges figured out soon. A very few can create terminals and custom towers and such. So, bit by bit, we are gaining. You will see a bump in more full featured freeware airport soon.
You can make workable crossing runways and close parallel runways with 3DS Max. That in itself will be a considerable contribution. -
I would recommend any initial attempt behind a with the South island. I think that is where the more diverse terrain is. I will follow this with interest.

Start with Christchurch International (NZCH)? Looks pretty doable with my skill level. 02/20 is 10785' - suitable for the excellent 777 plus a grass strip. Thoughts?

I could do some cultivation if you like?

If there was one scenic area to wow people with at the start of the project, Queenstown would be one heck of a choice. The mountains and lakes would be beautiful and if the mesh was in place along with cultivation, it would be spectacular. That is my two cents worth. Would be interesting to hear other opinions too.

Sounds good to me.

I'm available to assist with editing images. I'll also look into cultivation - never done that piece yet.

Has anyone made contact with Robin Corn (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/12199…imulation/posts) at the start of this thread to see if there is any way to help him finish, or obtain imagery or terrain mesh he may have available?

Hi Kloot,
That would be great. Perhaps focus on the level 9 tile that encloses the airport? I'll take care of everything within the airport boundaries.
Thanks,
Karl

As a test I have just downloaded one size 9 tile in 2M/PIX resolution in both ArcGIS and Bing.
Michael, have a look at what LINZ has to offer. They are continually upgrading their product, which was excellent to start with.

Yes i will do one!

That's already looking nice! Could be an awesome location!

I've been a NZ fan for ages and would give for this. LINZ is good quality, I tried a few tiles around Auckland in AeroflyFS2 time ago, which looked good but would require color corrections, too. BTW, there is a complete LINZ-based NZ-photoscenery available for X-Plane (Lyndiman NZ, not available for download but via Torrents).
As a sidenote: The freeware list has not been abandoned, but I am ill right now. Will continue as soon as I feel better.
Kind regards, Michael
