I want do make my alpha blending from land to sea, or from green to bleu water a bit more smooth.

In this way (picture) I can do the real alpha blending further out to sea and it wil be from blue to blue so not to be seen.

In this example I created an extra blue layer.

Now wouldn't it be nice if I have a original FS2 sea tile to replace that bleu with 8o

Were can I find one? Or can you give me one?

If you are using FSET to capture your imagery, i'll give you a little trick here; find an area with really nice water (it doesn't have to be a huge area) and capture the scene to gather the images from that area (water only).

Next, open the tiles that you want to edit, make your transparent layer, add a layer for your new water texture, and add captures of the water tiles that you captured to your image.

Be careful not to stretch the water image to big over the areas you want to cover or it won't look right once imported with the geoconvert tool.

Basically you are transplanting water from one area into your scene.

    Notes:

    1) you can leave some areas around the water as transparent so that it blends into the default scenery.

    2) try to find water that has edges close in color to the default imagery so that it will blend in perfectly.

    3) you can also even add a specular layer to your water areas to create a shine to the water.

This trick sounds cool. Wish I thought of that before finishing my Crete scenery;)

I think the brainpower of the people on Texel adapts to the sheep... :P

I hope you still have your Crete FSET files?

So I did a testproject of two tiles coastline.

I first have to say that I could not find any water with FSET, even a big lake gives me empty tiles.

So I took a plane, made a half role and took a picture of the original FS2 sea.

Sorry but the system makes my screenshots smaller.

Left my new coast, right the old ugly one.

The ugly transition is now at sea, can you see?

    [Blocked Image: https://myalbum.com/photo/jGJCB3MsGABf/360.jpg]

My small patch from 3000 ft, the transition out to sea is here no more visable

    [Blocked Image: https://myalbum.com/photo/ts0WbtorFoGL/360.jpg]

I did not manage that specular layer but I'm happy.

I still have to find a trick to do the transition from green to blue water very smooth but I will find one.

It's going yo be quit a task I think ^^

If you are using Gimp, try using the spray can.

The great thing about the geoconvert tool and editing the images is that you can put just about anything onto the images and it will show up in Aerofly when you convert it.

This doesn't look too bad though. Very nice :)

    Hey Jeff,

Any hints for an easy method of adding some color to the water around New Orleans? The big Lake looks like a mud hole and the river is yucky brown. Both should be a light to medium blue.

Maybe same as above - find some nice Lake water and copy it to the files before running GeoConverter?

Have you ever been to New Orleans :)

Yes, find a nicely colored large lake somewhere and run the job to get the image, then the alpha layer/delete/add layer/add new lake/save new image ...

Yes, many times. I live about 5 hours away. The muddy look is only after very large rains in mid USA and washes red dirt down to the gulf.

The wife and I were there for a work vacation last year for a few days and enjoyed every bit of it. Lots of nice history there. And lets not talk about Bourbon Street...

Needless to say the Mississippi was quite muddy when we were there.
