Hey Jeff,
it must be very early morning for you right now!
Hey Jeff,
it must be very early morning for you right now!
I agree, it's not that complicated in any way, the tutorial is very well made. ...
Many thanks for that, Ed!
The tutorial is meant for beginners to follow step by step.
For advanced users, this is the short version:
1. FS Earth Tiles (FSET): Please note the copyright information of the Earth Web Services!
Use FSET to move to your desired place and create your area.
I suggest to enter straight coordinates directly into the FSET window, so there is no need for any coordinate conversion.
2. Modify the config-region.tmc
As you can see, I entered straight coordinates again, inside of the original FSET area.
Advantages: No need for any coordinate conversion.
I can seamlessly add adjacent areas with this method.
3. Run the aerofly FS 2 Geoconvert process.
Ok, short enough.
Perhaps Jeff can add this to the wiki as 'short version for advanced users' .
Hope you enjoy the tool (once it is published ).

Hi colleagues,
I made some more tests. This is the result:
1. In the location menu we cannot place an aircraft north of about 60 degrees presently. But we ca fly into the high north.
2. In the navigation menu we can locate the whole earth and place an aircraft, as soon as an airport is there.
I added a low res image of iceland and created Reykjavik airport. Then I could go on as usually.
3. We can create airports purely by defining the TSC file without need for any graphics operations.
That's great, because it is easy and fast. But it has to be clear that the runway quality is then just the aerial image.
4. To make the runway lightings show up, we need a graphics object for the runway.
Well, it's more work, but still relatively easy if using a standard runway object.
That's it for today, enjoy the low res snapshots of iceland.

Ah, of course this is my favored livery for the Dash (I took this foto last summer flying across iceland).
It is possible, to add different resolutions to the areas. This is even the recommended way. See this example:
4m resolution for larger areas
1-2 resolution for outer airport surroundings
0.5-1m resolution for the airport itself.
We will try to add runways just by a definition file, I'm still not sure, whether this works without a graphics object.
Placing a graphic runway requires a program like AC3D. It's not difficult, but it still means some work to do.
Alaska? I didn't try it, but I will.

Hartman,
yes you can. You have to specify the top left coordinate of the image and the resolution in both x and y direction.
GeoConvert follows the standard of TFW files, which are widespread in geodata applications.
You can create such a file by just entering 4 lines.
The full syntax is included in the geoconvert tutorial.

Hi,
I made another test.
The area is Riva del Garda, Northern Italy.
The first image shows the default aerofly scenery:
The second image is FSET resolution 4, which is 4min/pixel.
Although rather low resolution, it looks much better:
This low resolution allows to cover a large area without massive storage and processing packages.
I tried to join to the Innsbruck area and Switzerland DLC.
Very promising I think.

Vielen Dank auf deutsch.
Nice touch Spit40.

In the meantime I added at least the google maps hyperlinks.
Please download again here or in my first post.
Rodeo
I'll ask them next time I visit them.
But it would be a huge list, whereas only few us states and switzerland are currently covered by aerofly.
I will update my list as soon as new areas are available.
Also I think about adding a hyperlink to google maps for a fast location of the selected airport.
If you have some more suggestions, you are welcome.

In some outside camera positions you can use the zoom functions.
Excellent!
I love the aircraft shadow moving over the mountain summits.
Hi,
a while ago I made an Excel list with filter functions to prepare flightplans.
Additionally it contains hyperlinks to airnav information by just clicking the ICAO code.
Perhaps it may be helpful for somebody else?
Oh, I did not yet add the new OrbX airports.
The list will increase obviously in the next months.

Edit 2017-06-19: The list has been improved to add a hyperlink to google maps.
Please download again!
Just downloaded from Steam,
these are some shots to show the coverage.
I haven't been in the details right now, but I enjoy Meigs and look forward for even the announced scenery patch.
Ben,
great video! Really enjoyed watching.

Excellent Ray,
still looking forward to download it from Steam tomorrow.
