and a good opportunity for me to brush up on my Deutsche.
Vielen Danke (or is it Dank?)

I just did it. Very easy. Tell steam to use other folders as app locations. Then settings on fs2 gives the option to move the local files. Can't remember the exact menu options but i found it via google. Steam can store games in multiple folders on multiple drives.

Ray - Your efforts to persuade JV have been rewarded.

Unfortunately there's still a little bit of work left on the tool before it can be released publicly. Sorry.
Fair enough. I'll let it go. Only 10 days to Orbx now anyway.

Hi DrHotWing - Any chance we'll get GeoConvert this week, well ideally before Thursday evening? If so I'll put some time aside for it as there's someone visiting I was really hoping to demo some local scenery to.

No, you did nothing wrong here. Your image represents a raw image file. For images like this you will obviously need to edit them a bit. There are two ways to achieve this. I use Gimp. Load the image into Gimp and add a transparent alpha layer to the image, use the various tools to outline the area that you want to make transparent (like what Rodeo mentioned above). Or delete sections that you don't want, find a nice water image, add a layer to the project and replace the area with no tiles with that water and save.
This mostly only happens around waterlines where their imagery stopped. We will add a couple of tutorials about editing your images but you will need to understand either Gimp or Photoshop somewhat to do this. Gimp is somewhat easy to use with some guidance.
Here's a quick and dirty fix of your image that took me 30 seconds to do in Gimp.
Thanks Jeff, I'm more than comfortable with that level of image editing. The entire coastline of Scotland will be a different matter though! Is it VES that decides not to supply an image of water or FSET detecting a lack of features? If I was doing a large area I'd prefer to take whatever the satellite imagery provides.

Perfect timing on that info. A 4x increase in my broadband is being installed as I type, so all ready to start downloading.
As for the earth service, I find Virtual Earth the only one that works. Is "Service2" a placeholder for your screenshot or something else?

Nvidia are very interested in getting authentic sounds too.

To use the GeoConvert tool and make your scenery for FS2, you will need only the BMP files and the INF files from FSET.
That's good to hear. So I can stop worrying about all those other settings on the left (like mask, scenery, auto mode, what flight sim its for etc), and just start downloading.

Yes the current aircraft sounds might be limited to mono and 22500KHz
Jan - If you're about, which of the following is true please ...
1) Mono/22.5khz is not going to change in FS2 for a good long while, or
1) Limited by current tech & current WAV files, or
2) Just due to current WAV files -
Its great to see progress in this important area. I had hoped the mono limitation was just due to available source files though, rather than FS2 itself. I'd actually love more immersive audio for the C172.

"Online stuff" is usually better the the photoscenery that you can buy from commercial vendors. In the US in particular, odd colors are pretty rare in modern data sources, not like a couple of years ago. Go to Africa or Sth America and yes, finding tiles is a nightmare. Western Europe is pretty good too, it all fall apart when you head over to Greece or further east. But UK/France/Germany/Switzerland/Spain etc have very decent data.
Please share what you know about Western Europe sources. I'm completely new to this. I loaded up FSET and got it working with Virtual Earth as a data source, but if there are better sources with more/better detail, I'd love to know about them. Tips on settings too of course.

OK, I'm ready. An extra TB of SSD now on board. Bring it on! Any update on timing of this tool?

Enjoyed that

Aerial images will be placed on top of the already existing Aerofly FS 2 elevation model, so yes, no need to worry about making those mountains. The tool pretty much does everything for you except make you dinner
Fantastic! Is the elevation model some kind of vector/contourr? Just wondering whether a detailed .25m resolution scenery might go on top of a much coarser resolution elevation model and if that will loose something.
Also I see fset includes a manual process for dealing with water. Is that necessary for us to do ?

I'm new to all this stuff, but just downloaded FSET, tweaked the config to use the latest satellite imagery service and downloaded 1GB of my local area at detail 0. Amazing !!
Will GeoConvert extract 3D data - it won't be flat will it?

Thanks I would be interested to hear how you get on with the new lenses. I also have the old separate ones that wiggle loose
