Happy to help. It is my second joystick. What settings do you need?

Yes it is possible. Like in real life, you do a flight plan, set the instruments up before take off then fly the plan. You don't pause in real life, why would you not prepare before flight or did I miss something?
-
I can fly it like that too. I said somewhere, I have only seen one guy fly a helicopter first time out in 25 years. Don't get me wrong, flying a helicopter is not hard, even I can do it. But it does take practise, and most people will struggle out of the box.

Under the arch at LAX. Required a bit of finesse.

Almost anywhere is fun in a helicopter.
Small question if anyone can help me. I didn't notice Palm Springs was DLC, just bought it and installed it. However the wind turbines are static, it that right or have I not set something right?
Oh and if you have the Netherlands DLC, try landing it in Ajax stadium in Amsterdam.

The easy mode is a dumbed down flight model, if that is the right word. Professional is much more realistic. The Robbie is very twitchy in real life and will take practice to master. I would suggest you get proficient in easy mode then progress to the professional model, it will come with practice.
I learned to fly in a Jetranger, which is a very flattering aircraft and is pretty easy to fly well. The first time I flew an R22, I thought it was broken it was that jittery. The tendency is to, what we refer to as, stirring the stick, which is over compensating with your inputs. Take a deep breath and try to relax.
Good luck because once you get to grips with it, it is enormous fun.

I just had a go at that myself. It is quite a challenging approach and landing.
-
Yes autos in the Robbie are sporty to say the least. It has very low rotor inertia, so everything happens very quickly. I don't think I was ever entirely comfortable doing one.
-
As you practice you will think it is impossible for a while. Then after some time you will fire it up and you find you can hover. Thats how it happened for me in real life. After not being able to master it. We stopped for a coffee then went back out and bingo I could hover. OK it wasn't pretty but I was in control for the first time.
Once you have it, and you will, the flexibility of flying a helicopter almost anywhere you want is a real thrill.
-
The Robbie in real life is quite twitchy. This definitely reflects that. Don't be surprised if you can't hover from the get go, I have only ever seen one guy hover a helicopter first time out, in over 25 years. I personally took around 3 hours of practice until I was remotely in charge. Keep at it, it will come. Once it does it is a very satisfying feeling.

Yes all is well in the Netherlands again. Very quick reaction, thank you.
-
You know, select a weather state and go?
-
Ooooh off to Rotterdam docks to try some of that.
-
I got that too, I did notice the tens needle on the R22 altimeter is fixed, maybe that.
-
I also not that when I fired it up this evening the Netherlands is now almost entirely covered in trees that weren't there yesterday. As far as I can tell it is only the Netherlands.

Thanks DR, I wasn't in anyway complaining. I was just asking if I had missed something. Happy to wait for functionality.
By the way, it is spot on with its realism in VR. I sat this afternoon looking at the VOR in the Cessna. Sad I know, but it really is like you can touch it. Same with the AH.
You guys are moving things on in ways i only dreamed.
By the way, I only heard about this a few days ago, get some PR on your case. Awesome product. I just bought NY, my wife is cancelling my credit card
-
I understand VR presents some difficulties. By the way, if you don't have VR, Aerofly nails it like nothing else, the detail in the cockpit is unsurpassed in anything else. The instruments in the Cessna are touch it realistic. Divorce your wife and sell your children then buy a Rift :o)
But is it possible to access the map function and replay functions with it? I can't yet find how to do it.

drhotwing1, is there any place i can find infos about whats new in the beta version?
Its a shame there are so much problems with the gazelle since i was looking for something small and nimble. I guess i'll go with the UH-1H.
It would be a good choice. It is pretty much spot on.
Flying helicopters is not easy. If it was everyone could do it.
Those that complain about it have never flown a real helicopter. The Gazelle is a dream to fly. Responsive, fast and agile. As it is in real life. Known as the Ferrari of helicopters.
You won't master it in 20 minutes, but once you tame it, such fun.
I have 2,000+ hours on type, not counted it up exactly, but I could fly it first time out with no problems.
Like anything worthwhile, it takes time.
-
The UH-1H or the Mi-8, the Ka-50 being purely a gun platform ( and, just as you I use DCS and IL2 just for the flight dynamics ).
IMO, don't spend your money in the Gazelle, at least until they fix the various problems with it's flight dynamics.
I'm curious as to why you think the Gazelle flight model is wrong? I have 2,000+ hours on it and it flys pretty much as the real thing. Do tell.
