My Global subscription ended around the same time and flying without global i never encountered the problem again.
I recently reinstalled the sim and Bought Global and all is well so far too, haven't encountered it.
So try reinstalling the sim and see if that fixes it.

It happened on multiple versions, so can't be a "rereinstalling will fix!!!" problem, like I said, my flight plan was terrible and the game got confused

that was, in fact, the problem! making a turn in a VOR makes the game completely freak out causing it to probably have no idea whats going on, gives up, and just spits out the aircraft crash detection

i tried on the same route but backwards and that was definetly the case, so i guess... case solved?

It's a bit cursed, made this abomination of a flight plan when I was bored this morning.

Yep, turned off Engine 1 and 2, result was that.
