Jugac64 actually your idea with the external moving map could be improved to use your tool to relay the position data to an external server, which in turn could display the position of all connected clients. ;)

There are some security issues and also costs to consider, but this could be a fun project.

Or we wait for the official multiplayer.

The base map as well as the tool is built by MapBox (I admit I really like their services). The Points of Interest on top are manually placed by me.
