The advantage of the upwardly curved wingtip

To test the Robin's short take-off option, I picked a hair-raising spot at TFFJ airport. Short take-off: Parking brake on, full throttle, parking brake off and go.

In reality, a normal person would probably never take off from such a place. But since this is a simulator, you can try it out without any consequences. Here's a video of the stunt. It wasn't the prettiest takeoff, but it worked out in the end.

And here's a video showing that the wingtip didn't touch the ground.

To complete the story, here's a Harrison Ford landing. :)

Reduced angle of attack near the tips makes a plane spin resistant with safer aileron inputs in the stall. The Robins and Jodels have extraordinary amounts of wash out in their turned up wing tips, it is plainly visible. In the cruise their tips are significantly unloaded with reduced induced drag yet that wing area is available in the lower speed increased angle of attack of the climb. Efficient all round.:)

They accelerated more quickly in your Harrison Ford take off run because of wash out, the wing tips made less drag.

We call this aerodynamic or geometric wing twist(?).

Gee I'm sorry but I have to call this a wash out.
