The ILS turns on automatically at an airports aproach. It is also to activate by setting a flightpath under “Navigation”. At the Boeing 747 the ILS appears in the glass cockpit right of the artificial horizon. A direction indicator in the middle and a height indicator on the right are the indicators for the glide path.
