Airbus A321XLR

A321XLR

The Airbus A321XLR is the extra-long-range version of the A321neo with a reinforced landing gear for a higher maximum takeoff weight of 101 tons, a capacity of around 220 passengers, and a built-in rear center tank for more fuel capacity and a range of up to 4,700 NM or 8,700 km. The A321XLR has been in service since October 2024 and flies on transcontinental and some intercontinental routes. The A321-253NY is powered by two CFM LEAP-1A33B2X turbofan engines with 143.5 kN of thrust, and the A321-271NY has two PW1133GAR-JM geared turbofan engines, each with 147.3 kN of thrust.

Depending on the selected airline livery the aircraft it’s either an A321-253NY with CFM LEAP-1A33B2X or an A321-271NY with PW1133GAR-JM engines.

Key Features

Physics Simulation

These things are fully simulated in Aerofly FS:

  • Full multibody aircraft that bends under load
  • Natural gear compression and damping
  • Center of gravity shift from gear retraction
  • Thermodynamic engine simulation with individual components for compressor, burner, turbines, drive shafts, fan, reversers and nozzle
  • Simulated full authority digital engine controller (FADEC)
  • Cold and dark startup

Aerodynamics & Flight-Controls

Aerofly FS features a realistic aerodynamics simulation and this aircraft is no exception:

  • Native wing flex simulation
  • Independent simulation of slats, flaps and speedbrakes
  • Auto spoilers and auto brakes
  • Fly by wire (FBW) with direct law, alternate law and normal law with flight, ground and flare modes
  • All real world flight envelope protections are simulated
  • Flap, slat and airbrake protections/inhibits

Aircraft Systems

Custom coded aircraft systems and behaviors specific to this aircraft and based on real world flight manuals:

  • Fully interactive cockpit
  • Full electric network with batteries, buses, generators, dynamic electric switches and individual electrical loads
  • Bleed air flow including cross bleed engine starts
  • Pressurization system
  • Fuel system
  • Hydraulic system

Autopilot and FMS

  • Authentic autopilot behaviors
  • Flight management and guidance system (FMGS) with all managed lateral and vertical modes (NAV, CLB, DES, ALT CST, etc.) and all selected modes
  • Autoland
  • Multifunction Control Display Units (MCDUs) with interactive pages
  • FMGS flight phases
  • Navigation auto-tuning
  • Vapp and ground speed mini

Instrumentation

  • Realistic PFD, ND
  • Realistic ECAM with all system pages
  • Master caution and warning system
  • ECAM warnings, cautions, advisories with ECAM actions
  • Display reversion and source selection
  • Adjustable display, annunciator and panel brightness

3D Model and Animations

  • High quality mesh
  • High resolution textures
  • Dynamic lighting
  • Realistic exterior lights
  • Doors and flight deck windows can be opened
  • Tray table can be pulled out
  • Sun visor can be pulled down
  • Wipers move

Immersive 3D Directional Sounds

  • Fan buzz, exhaust jet noise, N1 and N2 turbine and compressor noises, air starter and engine spool up
  • APU and air conditioning (PACKs)
  • Authentic radar altitude and GPWS callouts
  • Realistic master caution & warning sounds
  • Wind sounds, ground roll, passenger signs, cabin chime …

Differences to A321ceo

  • Two new engine variants: LEAP-1A33 and PW1133G with new custom engine sounds
  • Much higher maximum takeoff weight (101,000 kg), higher max landing weight (MLW), strengthened landing gear and wing
  • Rear Center Tank (RCT) for additional fuel capacity and much higher range
  • Decreased fuel flow, lower noise and emissions and increased range
  • Sharklets as standard
  • Black mask around the windows (on select airline liveries)
  • Redesigned wing root fairing, redesigned center wing box, two flap track fairings removed
  • MFRL - Multi-Functional Runway Lights, no more nose lights, no “photon brakes”
  • Inner flap is simplified and not slotted
  • Satcom antenna (on select airline liveries)
  • BUSS - backup speed scale push-button
  • ROW/ROP - runway condition selector
  • Improved situational awareness on PFD: auto-brake mode, go-around altitude, etc.
  • New DCDU - Display Control and Data Unit
  • New RMP - Radio Management Panels with integrated intercom and transponder controls
  • New cargo smoke panel
  • New weather radar panel
  • Fuel system changed
  • Changed air-conditioning system
  • LED flight deck lighting
  • Fine-tuning of the PTU - Power Transfer Unit
  • New callouts: V1, pitch-pitch, autobrake off
  • Engine start cooling delay, dry bowed rotor motoring
  • Dual cooling during engine start for the PW engines to speed up that cooling time
  • Traffic selector knob
