To you relief, I will tell you that the VNAV function is almost never used by real pilots of this aircraft. They mainly use the VS function, that also allows them to better follow the ATC indications during the descent.
Cheers, Ed
Thanks for your answer, in another forum they tell me the same so i use actually the vs function for descent.
Hi,
hmmm... I just tested it again in the steam version but I couldn't find any issues in the q400 related to the TOD. It always descended for me, so I'm not quite sure if I can reproduce this issue.
Is the HSI SEL arrow pointing to the left side?
Are you seeing the magenta bar (labeled "v" right beside the attitude indicator)?
Ok just try another time and works now. Is there a distance to use the VNAV? Seems i need to use it just before to reach the TOD (if i use VNAV too early seems not work) And thanks for your help.
First of all thanks for the great Q400 tutorial, so helpfull for a beginner like me.
So i try yesterday for the first time to really learn to fly with the Q400 (and it's great ). But have a problem with the VNAV.
I try in different flight (and of course in the tuto flight) and it's like VNAV PATH is never engage, the plane in autopilot never begin descent (need to do it manually, it's fun too but not what i want actually )
Seems i follow the tuto (when i'm cruise altitude, FMS1 ok, ALT to 3000, click ALT SELL, click VNAV, ALT SELL VNAV white on the PFD) but never begin descent when reach TOD (and after too). What i'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
it's not finished look here
Where have you buy your AFS2 version? Nevada, arizona are include with AFS2 normally. And you can download Utah, colorado (for free) and DLC on steam (but need the steam version i think). For Orbx DLC you can also buy on Orbxdirect.
There are already airports in other states in AFS2. Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Colorado have their own airports (for free). You can also have more airports with the Swiss dlc and North eastern USA (payware). And Orbx make Chicago MEIGS and Innsbruck LOWI airport in DLC too.
In the future IPACS will continue to make scenery with new airports and Orbx too (Aerosoft seems also will make scenery for AFS2).

Don't worry you are not alone with this problem. In 2D, in big city areas like New York i have also shimmering (but a little bit better for me if i use the Nvidia DSR 2.00x) and have also sometimes drop FPS.
But not a big problem actually for me, 95% of my flight are in "rural" area where everything is ok
Aerofly FS 2 is great to discover the beauty of the USA. Personally i use the list of National Monument and National Park to find beautiful places. When i choose the place i want to see i plan a VFR flight using skyvector and VFRmap.
For example Zion national park which is beautiful in AFS2

But sometimes the textures resolution is too low to enjoy the scenery (generaly if the scenery is far away from an AFS2 airport). For example Capitol reef National park. Hope in the futur IPACS send high textures resolution of the protected area.
And for California i post sometimes ago a flight i did along the Pacific crest trail.
The only things i have is running more when i play AFS2 is my track IR 5 (and no overclocking too).
Don't have answer about the difference. But just try New york Manhattan in 1920x1080, settings ultra in cockpit view, FPS around 100 and 130 and have drop to 90.
In Denver around 90 and 110 but seems don't have big drop as in 2K (but more shimering than in 2K)
I'm really surprised with the FPS you have. What screen resolution you play with the gtx 970? Can't have such high FPS with my config in 2k.
And think my PC is ok. I don't only play AFS2. For example i play actually Wolfenstein 2 and my FPS are correct if i compare with benchmark review.
Edit: My driver are the last one, 388.31
Same for me about performance, personally don't see FPS increase and have "dropped frames" since this update in dense urban scenery (and not in VR). Places like Denver FPS drop sometimes around 50 (never so low for me since i play AFS2 with my usual settings).
Everthing ok in "rural" area but don't see increase performance too.
Latest Nvidia driver too, GTX 970, i5 4590, 16 GB Ram, all settings high (exept shadow medium) in 2K.

I'm ok with this trick to have lower resolution texture outside airport area, and think it was already like this in other scenery and never have problem with this. But this area is a bit different, if you look the picture it's more like if there no aerial image (like the AFS2 world outside the scenery) and first time for me i find this in the IPACS scenery, seems for me it's not only lower resolution texture problem (but maybe i'm wrong).
Anyway not a big problem, it's just a small area but personally never see this before on AFS2 even i make only VFR fligh so not high altitude.
Hello Thomas and thanks for your confirmation about this.
Thanks for your answer.
We can of course enhance some regions if this is requested by users. Please send us your lon lat coordinates so we can have a look at it.
To reduce download size, we only feature hi res aerial images around airports and interesting places. The default resolution should be fine for 'normal' flying altitude.
The problem in this area is very much lower res than before and after area at the same altitude (about 15500 ft) without reason, so a bit ugly.
The area is beetwen N37.68 W106.65 and N37.75 W107.04, flying heading 279° beetwen this two point.
