Region joint failure? On a long flight at FL 300

  • Flying direct from San Diego to 12 mile finals San Francisco 28L I seem to have had a sort of scenery failure where the two regions join. At about 100 nm south east of San Francisco the scenery gave a odd texture and the land became 1,640 feet below sea level. The odd texture changed to a low fog which continued all the way to the Bay area. I checked the location map at about 15 miles from SFO and when I returned to the cockpit view all was back to normal with perfect scenery and the ground at sea level.

The route, the Top Of Descent was at exactly 100 miles from SFO.

263 miles from SFO. Next waypoint is the TOD.

119.7 miles from SFO. Land is 3140 above sea level.

96.9 miles from SFO. Land is 1640 below sea level. Descent is started.

    86.8 miles out. Strange scenery.

18.1 miles out. Height above ground is greater than the altitude.

About 15 miles out. Checked the location map.

7.9 miles out. Everything back to normal.
