Greetings,
I couldn't find a thread on this so thought I would start one. I'll start by saying VR was made for flight sims. Using the Vive and playing FS 2 is incredible. Closest thing to actually being there I've experienced to date.
Quick background. I am a VFR pliot who hasn't been current in about 5 years. I wanted to get some "sim" time in before I go back to just refresh my memory on the procedures and processes. I did this years ago with FSX and it was very helpful. In looking for an updated sim I discovered FS 2. For my needs this is almost perfect. I live in the LA area so it has KPOC the airport I learned to fly at. I punched up the 172 and KPOC with the Vive and could not believe it. It looked almost as I remembered. Doing patterns and touch and go's, turns around a point, flights to Catalina, Big Bear, San Diego all are as real as you can get on a sim. Amazing. It's so good it almost satisfies my need to fly. (almost).
Few things would make this better for me.
1. Performance of the VR. I have a HP Phoenix VR PC. It's i7 6700/8GB/AMD R9 390x 8GB and with everything on ultra it flys great, but if I move my head there is a slight shutter effect of the cockpit. If I lower the trees and buildings to low. It mostly smooths out. Wondering if anyone else is having performance issues? Are these graphics just too demanding 1080/90fps each eye? and I need a more powerful PC, or is it an optimization issue?
2. ATC - Would be nice to have ground control, tower, and controlled air space radio chatter.
3. KCNO - Small airport near my house. It's not one of the rendered airports. It's there only as a flat satellite image.
4. Multiplayer support. Total nice to have, but being able to sit copilot with someone and do virtual training together in the sim. (from two distinct systems/locations).
Also wondering if anyone has tried both VR setups. Vive vs Oculus specific to FS 2. Is one better than the other for this sim?
Cheers!
