Hey IPACS guys. When this crops up I always think what the VR experience would be for the other person. My guess is that it would induce nausea. That's why I suspect you disabled VR replay. Whats your experience been?

Please IPACS. Do not reinvent the wheel. Use this tech as well. It looks great. There are too few of you to code everything yourself. Buy it in.

ussiowa I'm making good progress with a simple to build solution for motion. Motion "cues" actually rather than full platform movement. It uses 4 fairly cheap servos off ebay and some steel plate and hinges. Just connect the plates/flaps to an existing seat with hinges and attach the servos with levers to press them up. Software is all no problem. You get heave/surge and a sense of roll/pitch.
You may find it suitable for your needs. See https://www.xsimulator.net/community/thre…ed-part-1.10470

This would be fun, just to swap the avatar head with your own.
Sony phone app takes 3D clone snaps

How realistic would it be to add some generic runways to the database of premade objects? It would require 36 versions. For a good enough solution there would be no need to match the exact length/width but I guess a short and a long would be nice.
Is that loads of work for a modeller or is it rotate, change the numbers, export, repeat....

Quite a lot of stuff is in the wiki now, but I don't see a link to it from this site. I've searched the menus.

Great idea. No copyright issues with that. I'm working on one now and happy to share.

We're evaluating possible electronic flight bags (EFB), chances are good that something as valuable as this make it into the sim.
It would be a great addition for VR and non VR, gives you quick access to the navigation, potentially weather, speed cards, approach plates, etc.
Hurray !!! So pleased to read this. I always chip in whenever people ask about this sort of thing, so it's great to hear that IPACS are now looking into it.

IPACS - any chance of an update on where something like this is listed in your development pipeline? I'd really like a built in in-cockpit reader. Ovrdrop is a real pain to use. Controller input to the panel passes through so i accidentally click cockpit buttons, and you need to run in steam mode, which loses FPS.
Pretty please....

Thanks forconfirming HiFlyer. Shame about the sound.

I'm on holiday, so maybe someone else can test this. I've read that the latest Oculus update allows for launching Steam apps directly within Oculus Home. If so it may also do the sound switching which would be great.

admin - can you let us know if geoconvert is happy with feathered edge transparency masks? I just went round the isle of Skye masking water with a soft feathered brush in the hope that the blend with base scenery would be smoother. Sadly geoconvert went wrong, bur i don't know if it was the feathering or something else.

I was fine with 6dps for a while, but then hit a problem . Reduced to 2dps and all ok. For a TMC of course it doesn't need to be that precise, as it isn't doing any lining up, just defining the outer area.

Sharp line like you did or does it benefit from feathering?

Just spent several hours with gimp. Thanks for the tutorial Jeff. I knew of the tool but had never used it as I was familiar with some others already. They however couldn't cope with such massive files, so this was a nice opportunity to get into gimp. Its very powerful. Who needs photoshop?
Currently working on the Isle of Skye - soooo much coastline masking. If its any good when I'm finished I'll put it online for others.

whitav8 - Yes I've concluded the same. I've removed the convert option now from my page. If IPACS do tweak the built in info2tfw conversion so it works without running the extra converter exe, then they can probably make it do that without file renaming as well.
I still use my webpage every time I want to make the TMC file to save me the trouble of doing the degrees to decimal conversion manually - and remembering to put them the right way round. If there's any problem with that side of it (or I've misunderstood your comment), please let me know.

We can possibly spread it around and allocate a ceiling then don't accept anymore. Something along those lines.
Regards,
Ray
In practice there may only be a handful of people who make good quality stuff with water masks done, so it might not be arduous to request and allocate a password. I'll see if I can get the tech going.

I've found the MB thing to be very flaky. My conclusion was that it doesn't stay in sync very well with the settings you choose.

Wow, this is so encouraging. No doubt we will be looking for a dropbox someplace so the brave souls can upload their work and us lesser brave souls can download it and enjoy their work. I am just full of ideas.
Regards,
Ray
I have been wondering about a shared terabyte dropbox, but who pays for it? Open access (risk of inappropriate stuff?) or someone has a job of allocating passwords and monitoring?
I do have 100GB of server space that I hardly use at all, and I just found this that sounds like it converts it into the equivalent of dropbox. I'll do some testing if I get time (about to go on holiday).

If you're having trouble creating the TMC file with the right co-ordinates, or finding that after your geoconvert run you have no scenery files, try this. It takes the co-ordinate data directly from FSET and makes a TMC file from it.

It's had a few updates and improvements since my weekend post. Thanks to everyone who's helped me debug the earlier problems with this.
Also, if you're interested, here's a zip file of FSET pre-configured with the latest INI file and all the checkbox settings which the wiki recommends for generating output for FS2.
