One of the several bits of help I got from 'FF' at FSWidgets - after entering 'ipconfig' at command prompt, I was getting an IVP6 value rather than an IVP4. Entering 'ipconfig /all' got me the correct IVP4.

Hi,
this is FSWidgets GMapHD for windows, the testversion allows to interact in the San Franciso area.
You don't need the network pack for aerofly FS 2.
I run both programs on a single monitor pc, aerofly is set to windows mode.
Better would be a dual screen solution or a separate device.Rodeo
I've used an earlier version on FSX and liked it. Their site does not specify compatibility with FS2 so what exactly did you do to make yours work?

Don't suppose there's any way to replace the in game moving map with that in the navigation section?

It's that old "64 bit magic".

A 'mea culpa' to Steam is in order. Turns out my faithful DSL provider was taking the weekend off but a little chit-chat resolved this and Steam is now cranking out a respectable 14.5 Mbs.
-
Was disconnected from my first try and now, after 4 1/2 hours I have 7% at a glorious 460 kbs. What a piece of cr@p. Sure wish I could use IDM to do this.

My computer had a huge expiration hiccup and forced me to reinstall Windows. Unfortunately I did an inadequate job of saving files so am reloading 'Steam' and they say I must ask here about reloading 'FS2'. They show my purchase and DLC ok but I see no obvious offer of a re-download. Help.
Update: The fresh install of 'Steam' revealed a download window for FS2 - it says it'll be done in 3 days and 9 hours.

DME was still in its infancy? Damn, your "handle" is accurate!
"You're only as old as you feel". Read that somewhere - mixed reviews.

The FAA 'Instrument Flying Handbook' is a free download and my favorite 'Instrument Flying Manual', by the late Bill Kershner is available at Amazon.
-
Nothing about complexity. When I took my ride, there was no GPS - four course ranges and colored airways were alive and well. VOR's were state of the art but DME hadn't completely arrived.
-
-
Do they let you use GPS during your flight test these days?
On mine, I flew a Low Frequency Range approach.

Good stuff. A wheel with 360 spokes - center the CDI with a FROM flag and that spoke (radial) is where you are in relation to that VOR. If you want to get there, your heading says turn right or left. While turning, recenter the CDI with a TO flag - roll out on that and work at keeping the needle in the center. Doesn't hurt to look out and see if the terrain matches the map.

While tubeliners are inevitable on any sim, as a former Piper owner (PA16-PA20) any of the ragwings would be nice and a modern helicopter would be the cherry on top.

I posted a screenie of the Matterhorn and the DLC mesh (Switzerland} is light years better than what I have (Pilots' 'Ultimate Europe') with FSX.

That would be a wonderful add-on.
