I've been using this a fair bit now and I no longer think the FPS hit is a big concern. In fact I like the new Dash a lot. I am looking at notes in lightweight SumatraPDF now though rather than via a chrome browser window. Once you get the hang of clicking back and forth between Dash and FS2 it makes lots of things easier, like adjusting volume levels, googling some info on an airfield.

I haven't yet worked out how to resize (the aspect ratio of) windows with the Touch controller yet though. I think you can as my PDF reader suddenly got very tall but I don't know what I did.

I've not yet stared to learn cultivation, but tonight I was flying near a Geoconverted Niagara Falls, and when I crossed from Ontario into New York State, I was amazed to find trees. I suspect these came with the New York DLC even although the detailed scenery does not go that far north. But here's what I'm wondering. If that's the case, then how was such a massive area cultivated? Was it all one process? And if it was, how can a person cultivate an entire state or province in one shot? Do any tutorials give direction for the beginner in this regard?

Current cultivation seems to be a small area stop gap. There are a few niggles at the moment. For one, cultivation areas seem to be linked to airfields.

Here's my object list. The planes show up but the objects don't. Was I meant to put some textures or folders somewhere in My Documents to make the xref buildings shows up or are all these objects part of core FS2? I've checjed that all objects are at Y=0 (does that matter anyway?). I didn't bother sizing the marker objects in AC3D as I'm not going for accurate placement just now. I just want something to appear.

Here's my log from AC3D export:

yeah i have the same issue, can you please explain more Phil what needs to be done ?

Will have to look later when I'm at my FS2 PC. I just found the section in the wiki, but I think its out of date in terms of masks. There's so much been asked about and written on geoconvert the whole thing needs an up to date guide. I'd do it myself but I don't fully understand it yet.

Can we have a link to the Wiki here please? I've spent the last 5 minutes looking for it - still am in fact. I know its linked to from some scenery downloads, but I can't find the right ones right now, and its in loads of threads, but I'm not finding those right now either.

I don't really mind having to pay a bit of $$ for aircraft addons, *IF* they are this good, without spending a lot of time tweaking the sim.

My biggest worry for AFS2 is this: that after they add 1) complex weather system, 2) ATC, 3) AI traffic air/land, 4) 3D water, 5) in-depth aircraft systems, the smoothness will eventually suffer. The smoothness that this sim enjoys right now is for the lack of those I mentioned.

But then I am still hopeful that their core platform and framework is designed in such a way that adding those won't affect fps much. I can still live if they give me 50-60fps with EVERYTHING maxxed out ;) Right now it runs along the lines of 120-140fps on my OLD system.

Behind the miracle that is FS2 is, I suspect, a massive re-engineering of code to shift towards exploiting modern GPU techniques and away from CPU. With this in mind "complex" weather is probably no harder than plain weather. ATC is no biggy, AI traffic probably not much apart from extra rendering of small objects, in depth systems smallish too I'd guess. Water may well be a burden - but then its not likely to have to cope with 500,000 autogen buildings at the same time. Multiplayer could cost quite a few FPS especially having multiple quality rendered aircraft flying close alongside Red Arrows style.

I haven't coded for GPU, but that's my guess.

Is it a simple thing for IPACS to modify something so that the Rift's mirror audio function works with FS2? I've been using a bass shaker(buttkucker) with FS2 for months and without it the aircraft now feel dead. It requires mirroring the audio which Rift has an option for and it works until FS2 launches and then stops. My workaround was to launch steamvr (which also provides an audio mirror) and then run in oculus mode, but the latest Oculus Home/Dash won't let me do this. It says i can't run two VR apps.

I've tried voicemeeter and some others but they've all been glitchy and just a nuisance.

I enabled Oculus Beta and today my new Dash home arrived. It's a bit fiddly at first but this is how I can read notes while flying

    1. Make sure FS2 auto launches with -othervr mode
    2. Launch FS2 from within Home - I forget now the new easy way of doing that. Something about Oculus Home remembers Steam games you've played and adds them to Home
    3. Hit the right hand touch control menu button
    4. Use the new dash panel to select Desktop
    5. Open your PDF/browser document using Touch as a mouse
    6. Point the touch at it, grab it by gripping then move it somewhere you like - it lifts the window off the desktop
    7. Click the pin icon at the bottom
    8. Click the right hand touch menu button again to return to the game and the document is overlaid
    9. To move/resize the overlay at any time, hit the RH menu icon, grab and move with touch. The mini joystick lets you shrink and/or move laterally too. I can now sit it on the Cessna copilot seat with ease.

I think it might be costing me FPS though as I'm sometimes jittery on a 1080ti but then I've had problems for a few days anyway. Also I can't interact with the window without stepping out of FS2, so its not as good as the built in solution IPACS is working on.

yeah very true ! the thing is my 5 yr old and my wife are away for 6 weeks, this would NOT have been possible if they were here, i need full concentration to learn this and learn and educate myself as much as possible before they come back, because when they do this is NOT going to happen ! :P

    p.s

how does on add a new thick line for the runway from the texture file (f10) to put on the runway say i want a thick line on the runway surface how do i do that?

In surface mode select an existing line and copy/paste it. It appears on top of the old so move it then stretch & resize as needed. You end up with a new object but you can merge with the old object.
