    Hi kisvakond,

I have sent you a link in a private conversation. Please note the conversation at the right top of the forum.

It contains a description of the task and some example files.

Hope to hear from you again...

    Thanks!

    Hello kisvakond

I was just wondering if you own any of the Saitek/Logitech wide panels? Multi, Switch, BIP, TMP, Radio?

    Regards,

    Ray

    Dholm,

The answer to your question is “yes, however”. Depending on whether the downloaded airport is located in an installed DLC area or not. Very few of the fsCP airports are located in DLCs.

If the airport is located in a “pixel soup”area, then you will not have any improved scenery under or around the new airport. Today, we are not able to provide the needed scenery along with the download. The only advantage this will give you is the ability to takeoff or maybe land at the newly downloaded and installed airport. This may help in some ways. You may be a lot closer to your destination, for instance.

Those few airports that have been added to a DLC area already have the full DLC scenery upgraded so the new airport will look somewhat normal although it probably will not have new taxiways and ramps.

I suggest you make an effort to learn to build the new scenery using FSET and GeoConverter. We can help you along. fsCP is being continuously upgraded and improved so it will have more features and be easier to use. The next big improvement will be the addition of runway numbers. Later planned improvements are taxiways and ramps.

I'm a total rookie into AFS2 and the mod tools but I'm also an embedded software engineer so if you have a specific programming/automation(scripting) problem, just let me know, maybe I can take look on it. :)

I can think of a few areas that we could use your talents immediately.

Streamlining and automating the processing of USGS data might be the highest priority. IPACS has a history of shunning most free 3rd party programming but us users love it so there may be a little tight walking involved in getting any official assistance. But, it is manually tedious but many steps could be automated with the proper understanding.

Another project would be to fix and fine tune the Saitek/Logitech panels to interface with AFS2. Probably some Go Flight gear as well. There are some switches, knobs, and features that do work, but not very many and not very well or not completely. If interested, several users can give you a long wish list of items to fix. The digital displays and the function lights for the Multi Panel would be my suggestion. Michael would like for the magnetos to work on the switch panel, and I would like to be able to turn on and off all the lights for the Learjet.

Nothing on the Backlight Instrument Panel works and that would be especially useful to have some of those annunciators working.

Others want all the Autopilot features to be activated and working.

Any of this sound like a contribution you would like to make?p

I suggest we use Hawaii as our initial U. S. state. Maybe start with Oahu and the Big Hawaii Island and go from there. Oahu has the big commercial airport, a couple of military airports, a glider or sailplane airport, a few closed airports that we could reopen and several heliports. There are petrochemical complexes, power plants, lots of elevated major highways, vegetation, beaches, and various water colors to solve.

The island is not that large so the scenery, elevation maps, cultivation, etc would be manageable. There is a very large military presence so we can populate the Naval and Marine bases. The U.S.S. Missouri’s sister ship the U.S.S. Iowa is available for the museum and the many docks and cranes can now be added. We have some aircraft carriers and other detailed Naval ships to fill the harbors.

We should have excellent free for use USGS data for scenery and height. Plus, it is probably not on the IPACS radar for a DLC anytime soon.

Should the Robinson R-22 ever be released for AFS2 users, Oahu and the Islands would make a nice scenic location for low level exploring. Maybe Jeff would contribute his Cruise Ship and Dave his Naval Group. Michael might assist with his 3D talents. We might even be able to get IPACS to fix the Aircraft Carrier collision problem so we can land and takeoff again.

There are a lot of positives for Hawaii. 😎 Your opinions?

Thank you Ed. First, I neglected to reply to your first question, and no, there has been no Q400 paint kit yet. I am hopeful that we may see one some day, but that day has not yet arrived. As for the propeller issue, not yet. I started working one a new repaint, as the ones I have been working on are ready to go once the prop is corrected, and this one, so far , actually shows the propeller!! Hummm...

Now I need to keep paying close attention as I work through this one paint, and see if a specific step in the process is causing the issue. Hopefully, we can get this all fixed, so that I can get these up for every one to use. Keep your fingers crossed that the prop stays with this one :)

When your repaints are ready for distribution, will you be using Higgy’s friendly site?

    Hi:

Do you know about a specific command on the configuration file for cultivation that would make the buildings look taller (4 + floors), and not that flat roofed and short type of structures?. I thought I saw this in some thread before.

    Cheers, Ed

    Ed,

I seem to remember Phil made some multi-story buildings somehow. Maybe check with him and Rodeo.

    from the Brunner website . . .

Within the timeframe of April 18th to April 21st, the AERO 2018 exhibition will take place in Friedrichshafen. With more than 600 exhibitors from 35 countries, 33.000 visitors and 600 journalists from all over the world, the AERO Friedrichshafen is the international aviation community’s annual meeting place.

BRUNNER Elektronik AG will present various products from its impressive portfolio of innovative Control-Loading-Systems and Simulation Systems. A true highlight of AERO 2018 is the new VR-Motion 200 Virtual Reality Flight Simulator, which will be presented at AERO the first time. Highlights from BRUNNER’s CLS portfolio are the new CLS-E Joystick and the powerful CLS-P Cyclic. On top, BRUNNER will use the AERO environment for launching a brand-new CLS Product. Are you curious? Well, then come and see!

IPACS Gbr is at booth A6-409.

    Michael,

I bought a book - Learning ti Fly Helicopters by R. Randall Padfield. The 2nd edition seems to be up-to-date. There are not many books with good reviews or recommendations.

The only thing I am going to do differently is reverse the throttle direction so I pull up for the collector.

The early days of FSX had a very good simulator tutorial for flying helicopters (Just text). It is still available with a good search.

    Regards,

    Ray
