I can not figure this out for the life of me. I can do everything up until time to descend. When I pass through the T/D, the plane does not descend. There is altitudes in the Legs page, VNAV is on. It also won’t let me put any information in the VNAV page for descent. How do I properly use VNAV?

Before reaching the top of descent, did you see a VNAV PATH mode in the flight mode annunciator (FMA) at the top of the primary flight display (PFD)?
And did you select a lower altitude in the autopilot mode control panel (MCP)?

The VNAV automatic speed control in the descent is really very good Jan, will there be more user-programmable leg altitude selection to match real procedures in the foreseeable future? The FMC function is incredibly good in a mobile sim but it can always be made even better.
It’s a shame to lose a complicated route when we need to create a new one.

I've found that you need to disarm VNAV near the top of descent and then re-arm VNAV to get the plane to descend on time.

Did you guys use vnav to climb and descend?. When i use vnav to climb, the autopilot ridiculously climb at 6000fpm or even above. But when descending the vnav did not respond to TOD, so i don’t understand how to use it, i always used 3 degree FPA instead.

For a Boeing have the altitude of the next desired descent level dialed in before you reach the indicated Top Of Descent.
You can enter the ILS fix altitude or the Airport altitude if you want to let the VNAV automatically descend and eventually slow to your first flap lowering speed (watch for the speed bug reducing towards flap 1) and match your subsequent flap increases OR you can dial in your leg altitudes and speeds if the terrain does not suit the simple Aerofly automatic descent procedure.
The FMC allows different climb rates in the Thrust Limit page, CLB is the highest, CLB 2 is the lowest. You can reduce the take off performance too and enter a higher assumed temperature than the actual outside air temperature under SEL which derates the engines in addition to the TO settings. I don't know if these really work, a lot of the FMC is cosmetic only. If you move the engine thrust sliders you override the VNAV and FMC.
