    Hi!

Is ArcGIS death? I got only empty images! :(

    Can anyone made a test?

Same, this happened about a month ago in Aeroscenery. The only other test would be to see if a zoom level 15 image shows any results. Sometimes missing images are due to region having bad source data.

The good news is that the ArcGIS server is still active and alive.

Also, it is still possible to download tile images manually or via simple web server access.

The bad news is that parallel and asynchronous access via Aeroscenery is no longer working and I am unable to fix this in Aeroscenery (had tried it this WE changing some parameters in the programm code - there is still no response of the server).

Maybee the author of this fantastic tool nickhod would have a solution with his experience to fix it, even if he is no longer active on Aerofly. I hope he may even read this message.

I was looking into finding updated FSET parameters but unsuccessful. ArcGIS is such a great source to have for editing flaws in BING images, vice versa.

Finally, it should be possible with a work around to download all the small photo tiles separately and then "stitch" them again as usual in Aeroscenery.

However, it would certainly be more convenient if this could be done resp. works again directly via Aeroscenery in a user-friendly way.

Basically, the other image sources still works on Aeroscenery.

Maybe it would be possible to implement mapbox as an additional source. As it looks mapbox also has access via XYZ tile server, similiar to Google. In any case, the integration into Aeroscenery needs a modification in the program code of the application. What makes this more difficult is the fact that it requires an individual token for access to mapbox. This needs to be specified in the config file as well as in a mask. May try it. But the author of this fantastic app nickhod would probably better be able to implement this than me.

    Good news:

ArcGiS will soon be available again as an image source for Aerofly. Was able to modify the app so that it will work with the new HTTPS server. Some test users still have few missing tiles resp. holes, trying to improve this before sharing my MOD. For other users it already works properly.

Also I achieved to implement Mapbox as an additional image source:

You have to register to get an acess token. 170'000 image tiles seams to be free, which is a lot.

If I had some additional time it would be great to take a lot at the AeroScenery app to see if some improvements could be made😀

    Hello aenbacka,

That would be great if you also had time to take a look at the AeroScenery app. First have a look at the C# program code on GitHub of the inital version 1.1.3 DEVL from nickhod.

If you decide to make further improvements, then it is important that we talk to each other resp. that you work on my modified version. Otherwise, we will have different versions that are not compatible with each other.

In this context I tried to contact nickhod, but could not reach him until now.

Question to the community: Does anyone have his contact details resp. e-mail address?

It is strongly desirable to get access to ArcGiS again.

Yes I think it would be great fun to collaborate on this, have done quite a lot C# programming the past years 😀 UI improvements and then update and add new data sources etc. Will take a look at the github project and code.

ArcGis does not like the asynchronous parallel download since the switch to a secured HTTPS server, it still sometimes has certain missing tiles.

There will be three workarounds to handle the issue easily.

Think I can do the upload of my MOD by the end of this month on flight-sim.org along with some more enhancements.

But still hope to get in contact with the author of this great App before then.

Then I look forward to the exchange with you. You probably have much more experience in programming than I do. Also, it's good to know that regarding the the continuity of the further maintenance of Aeroscenery there is another person resp. backup.

Let me know when you're ready. Then I'll be happy to share with you my updated Visual Studio project folder.

Should be ready to take a look at it, I already forked nickhoods Github repo, do you have your custom version of github too?

I suggest that we continue with a private conversation, will open one.

No, I don't have my custom version on GitHub. I will share it with you as a zip file, but it will take me about a week to finish it.

ArcGIS is back and working again on Aeroscenery. :!:

There are also some more modifications and enhancements (available on flight-sim.org) :
Aeroscenery v1.1.3 MOD f with Enhancements

    Note for using ArcGIS

To avoid missing tiles it is recommended to set the parameters for "Waiting Between Downloads" and "randomize +/-" to at least the following values (this also improves reliability using other sources):

If you still have issues there are several workarounds:

    a) Increase the values in Settings up to "30 / 10"

    b) Redownload the tiles and then stitch the image tiles again (using the MOD, now only missing tiles would be downloaded)

    c) The fastest and most realible way to download missing tiles is to run the provided PowerShell PS1 script and stitch the image tiles again
