I've been played AFS2 for a few years but I still cannot figure it out. It is so smooth, it is a masterpiece for sure.
None of FSX, P3D and X-Plane can do this.

It uses a new and modern graphics engine while the others don't. According to some the performance is also great because AFS2 lacks quite a few features the other sims offer: while it indeed lacks quite a few options I don't think this is the (single) cause for the excellent performance. Time will tell how well AFS2 performs with ATC, AI, real weather, study level aircraft, etc.
The reason for the great performance is the efficient use of hardware resources, knowing the bottlenecks and cleverly avoiding them.
It runs that fast because we programmed it on our own and didn't depend on third party libraries and we also don't have any legacy code that slows us down.
Given the amount of content we added to the aircraft alone during the first couple of year that Aerofly FS 2 has been around (easily increased the system depth by 1000% e.g. in the a320) and the framerates still increasing throughout this time, it is safe to say that Aerofly FS 2 has a lot of headroom for new features to come. New features are not necessarily slowing things down if done correctly and as you can see by how quickly aerofly runs, we usually do invest the time to do it correctly.
That sounds good. Today my VR helicopter simulator with 6DOF platform is ready. Is the re-control of motion platforms in progress or at least planned?
but I still cannot figure it out
I've noticed 2 possible things that help FS2 performance:
1) only cultivation within a ~6km radius of your aircraft is rendered
2) the lighting/shadow engine only processes from a single point of light (sun or moon) - this is why street lights and landing lights don't illuminate the ground nearby

A+
Antoine
a+
Cordialement.
Michel.

Could we possible know the IPACS's roadmap for adding those new features to AFS2?. I think it would be interesting to know the future plans for this excellent simulator and more about those new features (possibly AI & vehicle traffic, real weather, seasons, flight planning capabilities, some more aircraft systems, water textures, etc., etc., among a possible list).
Cheers, Ed
Afs looks absolutely amazing. I would give up quite some fps for some nice weather engine like active sky. That gives me the most immersion: changing weather and complex clouds
That is too bad....
This sim could be totally awesome if they added some stuff. There has been a lot of scenery added in 3 years time (also created by enthousiasts). I bougt 2 just flight planes and those are great too. I think we have had enough scenery and planes right now and we need some other stuff to make it a bit more realistic.
That is too bad....
Don't take it as an official response from IPACS.
Let's hear directly from them, even that, to be honest, I'm not very optimistic in having the answers.
Cheers, Ed
