some hot questions (for my curiosity only):
1. where will go ipacs-orbx cooperation take us next? which sceneries are under evaluation?
2. is orbx participating in this forum? or at least reading?
3. When will we get terrain shading?
thanks.

All good questions, however, we really can't release that information just yet.
As far as i'm aware, yes, ORBX does monitor this forum.
Terrain shading hasn't really been discussed much yet but it's definitely something worth looking into.
ORBX' JV hinted several times they will work on a version of PNW for AeroflyFS. As he just indicated, they didn't start work yet though and will only begin after the release of Germany South for FSX/Prepar3d which will be around September (if you ask me, rather later).
Besides, they wanted to extend the Chicao area.
They may be working on smaller-scale objects, but nothing official on this.
Kind regards, Michael

Michael,
Thanks for the info. Do we have a guess at when the 'extended or expanded Chicago area' might be available?
Regards,
Ray
So we are on our own for the foreseeable future!
Good to know. Geoconvert will make the time pass faster.

Not that I read one at the ORBX forum.
Kind regards, Michael

thanks Jeff.
please do look into the terrain shade thing.
I have found it a waste of appreciation for this otherwise great scenery
if dawn and dusk don't drop shadows on the Lee-sides of the mountained areas, looks a bit stupid and unrealistic really,
the orange-yellow sky would float into valleys as if a 3-year-old painted a christmas card. A huge dislike on my behalf.
historically (request was initialized years ago) the excuse would be performance issues
or the circumstance that sat pictures used would come with shadows shown already
(which can by the way be easily removed with tools like unity3D). Not happy with that sort of argument.
Add shades as an option if you like but don't let us down with such important stuff.
I absolutely agree about shaded scenery. It will certainly beautify the already impressive scenery. Let's see how things go. This might be one of those things that will come with a new weather system with volumetric clouds.
If IPACS can fixed the bugs of GeoConvert and let us add 3d objects automatically with the data from OpenStreetMap, I will be in heaven and have more patience waiting for the other commercial DLC.
We are going to fix any bugs that are noticed in the tool.
frui, can you tutor this openstreetmap 3D-thing for us newbies? sounds interesting.

This has not been implemented into FS 2 yet. As for X-plane, you need only download the ready made scenery from simheaven.com.
xplanes' secenery colors and graphics look so milky.
Cloud shadows are great! That's what made me finally switch from FSX to P3D.
Thumbs up from me for whatever happens, can't wait to see what can be done with this Sim over the next couple of years, I'm addicted lol
