When GeoConvert came out, I was super excited and I made sceneries like mad. But now I have stopped using it. Why? Because it looks very flat and lifeless without 3D cultivation. Now I know it’s not enough with only photoreal scenery. At least there need to be some trees. We are spoilt by the professional made DLC. So we really need to have some easy way to plant some trees in our GeoConvert scenery by ourselves.
I won’t fly in a land without trees now.

Thanks for pointing this out. This looks hard to learn and time consuming to make...

Yeh, but Scenproc seems to have a steep learning curve...

Not really, in fact it can be done rather quickly. Check out my new video tutorial.

Hi Rodeo, after a walk through your video (really well-done!), I tend to agree. If it's only those steps, it's really not difficult. Certainly not aimed to the beginner, but I might be tempted to try it should I find a time slot.
Kind regards, Michael

Thanks for your comment Michael,
check the video tutorial thread in the developer section. It contains the links to scenProc and the definition file.

Thanks, got them. As I said, I've to wait for a time slot, however I am indeed tempted to complement with cultivation the (pancake-style) geoconvert scenery of my local region I already made.
I know OSM data of Jena and surrounding are excellent (enough students and small enterprises around), however, outside that area quality may fall. At least that's what I observed from W2XP. The advantage of doing the process yourself is you can repeat it with new OSM data, it you think it's worth.
Kind regards, Michael

As far as the future progress of AF cultivation, I had always had the impression that widescale (more) accurate tree placement was just a matter of time.
I note that JV on the orbx forum has mentioned very precisely matching building footprints, and I look forward to more progress with that as well, as I do notice that in the current implementation, large /squares rectangles (warehouses?) can overlap roads rather than matching the building footprints precisely.
JV's example pictures show more precise matching, which I assume will become common..

Thanks Rodeo! I will check it out.

I agree 100%
I can't go back now. I've been doing loads of cultivation of the UK and it makes a huge difference. We are getting spoiled though. I was amazed when I first experienced Virtual Earth geoconverted to FS2, but now its not enough without cultivation. Just wish I could get airfields working as well. Next AC3D video please Rodeo ! No rest for the gifted!

Thanks for those tutorials videos! Keep them coming

Yessir!
It's already under construction, but will not be finished today. -
hi can anyone tell me say you do a cultivation to one area, then after a few days you want to add to this cultivation area an area further south from the original cultivation, do you have to do the whole area plus the new area you wanted to cultivate again?
-
I've not yet stared to learn cultivation, but tonight I was flying near a Geoconverted Niagara Falls, and when I crossed from Ontario into New York State, I was amazed to find trees. I suspect these came with the New York DLC even although the detailed scenery does not go that far north. But here's what I'm wondering. If that's the case, then how was such a massive area cultivated? Was it all one process? And if it was, how can a person cultivate an entire state or province in one shot? Do any tutorials give direction for the beginner in this regard?

Current cultivation seems to be a small area stop gap. There are a few niggles at the moment. For one, cultivation areas seem to be linked to airfields.
-
Hi Phil.
If user-created cultivation is currently linked to airfields, and the DLC of New York brought trees to areas that are far removed from airfields, then one wonders if the core sim creates cultivation through a different process from that which users are using. Maybe future versions of the sim will expand the coverage of basic trees so that third party developers have more of a base to begin their scenery design work from.
I find myself between two minds. Do I invest the time to learn cultivation now, or do I wait to see further development in the sim's cultivation engine before undertaking that learning curve?

Cultivation is great. Have a go - it's been the easiest to learn, compared to AC3D and geoconversion
-
Phil,
Thanks for the encouragement. Where's the best place to start the cultivation learning curve?
