Great maps of the loop

An elevation mesh is optional, but luckily you currently only need one for any location in Ire or GB:
see coverage and install instruction there.

Great maps of the loop
Thanks for the links. Very nice maps indeed.

I am always a sucker for a user built airport (I yearn for ramps and taxiways) so I downloaded one that I had never heard of, had no real idea where it was but, knew that North Wales was probably somewhere west of London so I installed it, then went looking for the necessary scenery download - only 2.8 GB - and while that was downloading, I grabbed the 25m mesh for the whole general area.
I watched some of Kenneth's Mach Loop movies, checked out the maps over at A2A, and came back and everything was completely downloaded so it took about 3 minutes to install it all.
I loaded up AFS2 and went looking for a single blue dot someplace in Great Britain. Ah, there it is way over there. Wow three runways, I pick one and start the sim. Very impressive, gang, extremely nice water masking and a busy looking airport. I have no idea how large a flying area I now have, but it looks like it goes to the horizon. So off I go in my freeware Socata Rallye.
Lots of fingers involved in making this pie, but, it sure is inviting. Thanks to each and every one that contributed. I have something new and different to explore this evening.
Regards,
Ray

I have given izojub Llandbehr (EGFD) Airport so he will upload it for you all to have.
Please check your wall for a message. Papi lights need adjustment for runway 5. Move from right to left to avoid conflict with runway 17. Thanks for the new airport. Very nice.

ok ill take a look then fix it then send it off for all you.

It is amazing to me that I can now fly low level from the Mach loop in Wales, all the way up through the Great Glen in Scotland (includes Loch Ness) and beyond... in Photo scenery, on an old computer, at reasonable frame rates. Yes, I appreciate the work of everyone involved in this adventure. Ray, keep on downloading the rest of the UK scenery, it is worth it.

I had them since day 1 but had to do a restart a couple of months ago when FS2 would only run for a nanosecond then shut down. The recovery file was full of errors and most were scenery related. I finally gave up and started over from scratch. In the recovery I found that you had removed both your airports and I just failed to follow up. I see that you recently had a change of heart and they are now available again.
Fortunately I still have the scenery files surrounding the two airports. Thanks for the nudge. -

Yes, YouTube has a lot of great Mach Loop content.
By the way, I really appreciate your mesh for the UK, I am using it even as I type this. One thing to note is that your mesh does not cover the major island chains to the north of the Scottish mainland. The Orkneys and Shetlands are indeed covered by Micheal's photoscenery and cultivation, and it might be an idea to produce a small file to add the mesh as they are not as flat as the default AFS2 mesh suggests.

Latest version of EGFD with PAPI light fix.

Thank you for your nice airport Llandbehr.
Could you tell me please, how you placed the xref objects (program / procedure)?

A test version of fsCloudPort was used for the XREFs - public version coming soon that makes TOC files.

Unfortunately my attempts to import a higher resolution mesh so far have been unsuccessful for reasons.
The DEM Data is in asc format with no other accompanying meta data files such as prj files unlike the DEM data for Sydney airports which did include those prj files. Not to mention the pain of converting OSGB36 coordinates to long/lat but I wont bore you with that.
As a result things went far from smoothly, with me trying several work arounds over the day.
Without those prj files the hieght data was wrong, so for now I give up.
Doh I may try again another day when my head clears.
Please don't tell Lord Vader of my failure.

I have just posted a selfmade movie in the Gallery of my Mach Loop flight in a F-15E south of Snowdonia mountains in Wales.
Enjoy the flight, compressed in a youtube-movie of 6 and a half minutes, any comment is welcome in the Gallery, thank you.

No problem Kenneth, I just uploaded an update of the elevation file, which now includes the Shetlands too.
