Hawaiian Islands are now uploaded and available

  • Seriously, the initial release is the islands of Kauai and Niihau will be uploaded to flight-sim.org in pieces. The Elevation Mesh for all the islands and specifically for Kauai and Niihau are already there waiting for you. The larger files for Images and Places are a second download for this afternoon, tonight, or early morning depending on where you are in the world.

Look for a documents folder in the downloads with a pdf file. You will find instructions and file recommended file structure there.

The main files have just finished uploading. Look for Hawaiian Islands: Kauai and Niihau

    https://flight-sim.org/filebas…ian-islands-kauai-niihau/

Total download is in the neighborhood of 1.8 GB for these two Islands. We will continue work on the overall package and announce the 2nd package very soon. This will either be Maui County (4 islands) or the Big Island of Hawaii.

As most of you already know, this is record breaking freeware with an emphasis on VR, but, still well-suited for those wishing they had VR. We have optimized this scenery to run smoothly on just about any PC system that will run Aerofly FS 2. We are introducing many new features and graphics like you have never seen in AFS2. You may experience some slight stutters, no matter how fast your system runs, and we are working with the experts to minimize these slight hesitations.

Due the the number of animated boats placed around the island we have made available a selection of 0% for those systems that will barely run AFS2, 25% or 50% for mid-range and some of the newer systems, and we have 100% for those heavy weight systems with the big new graphics cards. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher close by in case you hair catches fire. 8o

Changed the title of the thread from “Hawaiian Islands is now uploading for you” to “Hawaiian Islands are now uploaded and available”.
  • Due the the number of cpu intensive items we have made available a selection of 0% for those systems that will barely run AFS2, 25% or 50% for mid-range and some of the newer systems, and we have 100% for those heavy weight systems with the big new graphics cards.

Is this set by the FS2 graphics quality settings, or somewhere else?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Andrew

No. The FS2 quality settings are recommended to be Ultra with the exception of Shadows which should be set according to your systems capabilities. The 0% - 100% is strictly for the animations, mostly controlling the number of animated sailboats.

You will find the location for your selection in the Places/Kauai folder and the selection is made by a mouse double-click. See pic.

  • Hey gang, I notice that there are more downloads for the Places and Images files than for the Elevation Mesh files. These should be one to one so make absolutely sure you do indeed have the Mesh files installed prior to attempting to fly the islands.

  • First flight from Port Allen to Barking Sands - the coastline water looks amazing!

I haven't used my Samsung Odyssey headset in awhile. What do you recommend for the Windows Mixed Reality settings, SteamVR settings, and in-game FS2 settings for a GTX1080? What animation setting? Is the default 100%?

Also, awesome detail at Barking Sands - the Police car at the south end of the runway was a nice touch! I felt like I was being watched 8)

  • Hello,

What a nice surprise this morning here in Europe.

Excellent imagery with very high resolutions at airports. Everything blends perfectly. Tree and building are simply perfect, looks 100% coverage to me. Roof top colors are very realistic. Great work.

Airports are very nicely detailed with tons of objects.

A very big thank to the team. I can't wait to fly the whole archipelago.

May I suggest a very small correction?

I have noticed those duplicate static helos at PHBK.

  • Thanks for catching this, Sylvain. Nothing like competing static displays at the front gate. The old Navy vs Marine competition. We are planning an update to fix all these type glitches.

  • Wow!!! I am completely blown away by the Hawaii scenery you guys have made. It has breathed "new life" into AFS2 and I can't even begin to tell you guys how impressed I am with your efforts! It is thoroughly of Payware quality and I am really looking forward to the upcoming islands.

  • Truly amazing work. Thank you very much for it! Any idea how long the Maui islands will take? 😊

We really can’t even guess at a completion date because we are doing things that have never been done before. We never know what or where the next stumbling block is going to be.

We are at a stage where a very few specialists have to complete their work, and can only work a limited number of hours at a time. This is because they have full time commitments to a day job and raising a family.

This is the classic constraint and adding more manpower or untrained assistants actually slows things down.

As someone once said, “Nine women can’t have a baby in a month”. Be assured we are all working at 110% and someone is always at work due to our locations all around the world.

  • Hi all,

I hope the team members will use more of their free time to do things with friends and family after the first release.

There is more in life then flight simulators....(Is there?)

You all have brought us these first two islands to enjoy for a long time, I can wait a little longer for more quality like this!
