Oahu Island Scenery is being uploaded - it's big

  • Thanks for the kind words!

In regards to Animation around Meigs.

    https://flight-sim.org/filebase/index…igs-field-kcgx/

Wow, that Chicago animation is fantastic. Really helps make this sim feel more realistic and immersive in VR. Many thanks.

Another quick question. How do I get VR landing lights with FS2 heli's? No matter what I try I do not seem to be able to turn them on. Makes night flying a little more challenging unless I land in a well lit area. Thanks again mate.

Edit; OK I see that while landing lights can turn on, they just don't illuminate the surrounding environment. No big deal since I usually prefer dawn and dusk heli flying rather than pitch dark anyway.

  • If you can use the model, it's obviously important to look at usage rights & permission requirements and/or credits. If it is useful, I'll search for the file source & post here. The Readme :

    The real aircraft

    =================

NC 18609 was a 314A, flown by Panam from 1941 to 1946, as Pacific Clipper (A).

The rudder has 3 fins, because the tests had not enough directional control with only 1 or 2.

The turret over the middle of the wing is for star navigation.

The windows just fowards the wing is the spacious flightdeck (navigator, radio and engineer),

closed from the cockpit by a curtain (G) during night flights (night vision).

Doors at the rear of the flightdeck, enabled to go inside the wings during the flight.

The price of a ticket was like the Concorde today.

The flag on the bow, the top of the wing, and below the sponsons was to identify itself

as neutral aircraft (war time) (B).

C-98 is the military designation of the 314 (C)(D).

    Model

    =====

The following proportions are respected :

    - overall length, width, height and propeller diameter (14.5 ft).

    - in length : cockpit windows 1/7 , wing 2/7 to 4/7, horizontal stabilizer 6/7.

    - in height : middle rudder fin 11/27.

    - in propeller diameter : engine 1/3.

    - panel height = 1/2 of height to floor (below the panel).

This model can also be used as 314 (same dimensions).

    VRP

    ---

The model is aligned vertically along the nose axis, but is still centered

horizontally on the center of gravity :

    - that is more handy with the Blender grid.

    - the alignment of VRP to the nose tip is finished by XML (horizontal offset).

    Texturing

    ---------

The yellow strips are delimited by the mesh (except the rounded tip) :

    - map the right texture on the right wing.

    - mirror to the left wing, and map the registration below it.

The strips behind the engines seem dark exhaust wake (E).

Color of ground cockpit helps to contrast with the walls (F).

Windows (hull, door, cockpit) are extracted into a seperated object.

    TO DO

    =====

    - improve wing door scale.

    - finner wing tip and sponson.

    - shape of hull behind the step (afterbody).

    - grooves (sponsons, top of fuselage).

    Known problems

    ==============

    - the top of the vertical stabilizers is slightly too long.

    Known problems Panam livery

    ---------------------------

    - the livery is difficult to repaint (not a skin).

    - the fuselage seemed to be a metallic grey blue.

    - in absence of photography of NC 18609, the flag is only on the bow.

    - the Boeing logo seems to be green.

    - letters of "PAA" logo are reversed on the right bow.

  • VR touring of Oahu is really nice! I ran the first performance bat file (0-VR PC) since I have a GTX1080.

Ya, in VR I also found that the 0-vr pc bat worked best with my gtx1080ti. This let me go to Ultra on everything except buildings = high, and shadows and trees = low. Using Vulcan and hi AA btw.

With my Vive Pro I was able to go to 100% pixel density (~2100x2100 = about to the same as the HP G2 native res). With my Rift cv1 I was able to use Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) and set SS to 1.5 with asw = off.

With your Odyssey + you may need to adjust these setting. Even medium fs2 settings looks very good and dropping shadow and tree density down to low seemed to make a big improvement in all cases I tried.

  • I'm so excited about Oahu as the most recent addition to the excellent Hawaii scenery - but - I have a problem. I have now tried 8 times to download it, and get very low download speeds 60-80kB/S and it crashes somewhere between a thiird and half way through, every time. Very conscious that I down want to overload the server, so I give it some time, tweak the settings on Internet Downlad Manager before trying again, only to have the same result. I have a fast broadband connection, and Internet Download Manager works very well in all other contexts, so I'm at a loss on how to get the Oahu scenery downloaded, Is there a mirror-server I could try or if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be most grateful.

    Cheers - Eivind

  • Hello Eivind,

I can have a mirror link uploaded in about 30 minutes. I will private message you.

Thank you so much Jake - that'll be hugely appreciated!!!

  • So, my first impression of Oahu, is - WOW!!!! Incredible attention to detail and an incredible depth of immersion and things to to and explore within the sim. Brilliant job by all involved, and it really sparks life into the Aerofly FS2 sim!! I’m very greateful and thanks again to Jake for creating a mirror, allowing me to download it!🙏🙏🙏

  • I discovered by accident that I can drag a URL from my browser (PaleMoon) into my download manager (Free Download Manager) , then pause the FDM, close the browser and tell FDM to resume. This gave much better d/l speeds ( up to 5.5 MB/s ) than anything I saw with the browser also running, or just d/loading via the browser alone.

    Hope this helps someone. `

  • I had no problem downloading all this with my fairly ordinary Aussie NBN 50mbps plan at 6.8Mbps with my Chrome browser. Same results with Aerofly fs2 downloads from Steam. My PC is Ethernet connected to my Router so this may make a bit of a difference.

  • Great scenery! Thank you!

The 4.bat option is perfect for my config with all sliders full right (Vulkan Vsync=60Fps stable)

There is not much here to download. Try https://flight-sim.org for FS2 downloads.

  • I have reached my monthly download limit

Had the same problem last month - Higgy had to manually reset my flight-sim.org profile. He said it can be caused by downloads using 2 different PCs for the same user.

  • I happened to read this text here .. (for future: when it comes to our website ... its faster and easier to use our forum or write to me, that I see this.)

I think our serversoftware try protect that your account isnt hacked and you dont give your login-data to other users.

For this ... the software checked if you have "blacked" (bad) emailadresses from servers who work for hackerthings

or which are often badly noticed( there are lists of this in the net )

and also check if there could be any clues that you account is used from diffent persons / computers.

( everone accapted that at registration in our disclaimer and Netikette ( https://flight-sim.org/wbb/index.php?…etikette-rules/ ) No 6.

So if our serversoftware makes an mistake, and you have problems like this, write me a mail or in our forum ,

I will check this and unlock the account by hand ( if this is the problem ) .
