GeoConvert screenshot thread?

  • Guys, thought it perhaps be fun to share some screenshot from our newly unlocked abillity. While I've been flightsimming for a loooooong time, this is the first time I've tried to generate my own scenery. Here's a shot of my very first try: Heading towards Essendon(YMEN)/Melbourne/Australia from the south east. Source Google. Zoom level potato! This will be fun!

  • Wasdale in the Lake District, with Great Gable at the end of Wastwater. Off to the right is Scafell Pike - highest mountain in England.

This is resolution setting 1. I'll do a bigger download now at higher res. By the way I've noticed that the bmp files downloaded store the resolution in the filename in case you forget. LP1 =1 LP2=2 LM1 = -1 LP0 =0

  • Worked it all out :) and so here I am taking a turn over Windsor Castle. Sadly I can't tell if HRH is home... not high res enough to determine which is flying, Royal Standard or Union Flag.

well done! Glad you got it working.

  • Amazing!

I agree. It is amazing how you can take free flat earth scenery, layer it over a terrain mesh, display it through the window of a very realistic and convincing cockpit (especially in VR) and have it look terrific and very convincing. This technology is so close to pure magic.

  • can we please get a share forum. I would love to download some of what people are making. I'm gonna try to make south Carolina next week and would happily share what I make if it's good

We are still reviewing copyright limitations and options for this, but it's unlikely that there will be a download section for user created scenery hosted directly by IPACS. It's more likely that a user will host this in the future on an independent server.

    I'm just a cook, I don't own the restaurant.
On behalf of Torsten, Marc, and the rest of the IPACS team, we would all like to thank you for your continued support.

    Regards,

we need to find some way allow people to share- what about the rules that protect youtube and steam workshop

  • I love these pictures. I'm about to go on holiday to Australia, so I think I'll download some scenery of where I'm going and fly over it to get a better feel for where things are. I spent 2 hours yesterday flying around the area I live and it was great. Much different to going by car or foot as your perspective of where things are gets distorted by where the roads go. I'm still astounded how well FS2 turns flat photoscenery into realistic views - perhaps a slightly finer mesh for elevation data would help as some hills are a bit too smooth and some a bit angular, but I'm not complaining in the slightest. It's great.

  • Asheroo, I love the water blend you achieved, congratulations ! Awesome place I would love discovering in AFS2 (no chance to get down under in the near future IRL unfortunately).

What sources did you use? Was there a lot of correction needed?

    Cheers
