Another C152 - freeware

  • I am aware that Just Flight will release a C152 soon and I'm sure it will be great.

    I have also been working on a C152 project for the last five month. It' certainly not as good as the Just Flight version will be but here it is.

    Well said. We have dedicated specialists who produce the models, and then others who do the coding, and then others who do the sounds, and others that do the liveries and so on. For somebody to do all that on their own is quite the achievement and I take my hat off to you!

    I learned to fly many years ago in a Cessna 150, after receiving my PPL and was engaged in a commercial pilots program, I purchased my own C150. Not much later I got my CFI rating and started teaching primary training in my C150 and renting other aircraft as needed. I accumulated logged hours in that Cessna that amounts to about 6 times the number of hours you stated that you spent building this freeware model. Several years later I purchased a newer model that looks almost exactly like the one you chose to model.

    As you can imagine, I have very fond memories of flying my personal Cessnas. I remember very well the views, the sounds, the feel, the response, etc. My initial thoughts are that you have captured all the important features and specs for an enjoyable AFS2 flying model.

    I am especially pleased that you are the one and only designer/developer to actually capture the physical size of the vertical braces between the windows and the windscreen. The view from the pilot's seat is perfect as opposed to all other C152 models that I have seen, including those in development. It looks to me like I remember the views from either seat and how it looks when looking along the bottom of the wing and looking over the engine cowling.

    I suspect this will eventually be my favorite "goto" airplane for casual flying. Thank you so very much for choosing to share this marvelous accomplishment with us.

  • Why in the world is that not an answer? You just scroll back up to the orininal post on the same web-page you’re on, and THERE is the download link. How about some gratitude and manners towards someone who’s put down hundreds of hours and made this freely available for our enjoyment?

    The professionals, or those who are very fond of programming, spend thousands of hours doing this work, therefore you know and intuit with great agility, the way forward to dive in all this computer labyrinth and find the desired links.

    Those others (like me, with little time available), whose activity is far from this hobby of programming, we sometimes have difficulties to find the right path to that link. If we had it so simple, we would not ask for help again. And, surely in this situation we are the vast majority of users (I would say that, at least, 95% of us).

    It is evident that this difficulty of most of us, you do not understand it. What for you is elementary and logical, (consequence of repeating that routine thousands of times), for us, it is more difficult, precisely because we can not spend so much time in those repetitions.

    Secondly, I feel a deep respect for the professionals (or very good amateurs) who dedicate themselves to this creative activity, thousands of hours of work, and in the end, they deliver us without charge, the fruit of their prolonged work. Therefore, Ozav8r, do not make affirmations and accusations so severe, about what you do not know.

    In this forum (it happens frequently in all collectivity), sometimes, people are offended with excessive lightness. I hope Sylvain, my words will not bother you; If that were the case, I apologize. And, of course, thank you for your contribution to this Sim.

    Another thing: Why have not you put the link at the end of your post in which you advertise and put that Cessna at our disposal? That's what the creator of the Marchetti S-211 did in his day, so it's much easier.

    I agree, those wide windows and the position of pilot seat offers some fantastic views.

    I finally downloaded your Cessna 150, and ... very pleasantly surprised!

    I was surprised, the resolution and sharpness of the instrument panel and the perfection in these instruments is the information.

    Magnificent sound, both internal and external, and in addition, its response is very linear (both its sound, and its speed) as they increase or decrease the r.p.m. from the engine.

    The plane has a really good finish and its flight is extraordinarily smooth, elegant, and with a perfect response proportional to the movement of the joystick.

    I sincerely thank you for this contribution to FS2. I fly the Cessnas a little, for finding its flight very simple, but in this one, I find something special, that I do not know exactly what it is, but I enjoy flying it. Maybe it's because of its elegance and agility in the answers I ask.

    Thank you so much Sylvain, you did an outstanding job with such a very high standard 3D model, congratulations!

    Would this C152 have been designed by some well-known professional third party editor using expensive tools I would have said it's a brilliant job - therefore I'm even more amazed you did it with Sketchup! Hat's off!

    The cold and dark situation is gorgeous.

    The sounds are pretty good and immersive, turning back to the dull sounds of the DR400 after the C152 run sounded really disappointing to me (I need to work on it).

    I think the flight model however could benefit from Jan's experience and support if he reads those lines. You obviously picked the C172 base, which is sure the best method to start with, but the light C152 kept the engine power and many other features of her heavier big sister.

    As a result, at brake release the speed jumps to 70kt in no time before rotation eventually gets possible, and then the C152 rockets to the sky with an initial climb rate of nearly 2'000 ft/min - it felt like JATO-assisted takeoff.

    As long as you keep flying fast, she does it smooth and gentle, still with exaggerated power. But when reducing, speed control is nearly impossible whatever the flaps setting, with a very heavy nose when approaching 70kt and immediate stall below (should be some 40kt). Applying full flaps you hardly can reach 65kt before stalling (should be below 35kt). Then, of course, getting back to the AD I carrier-landed her 3-points full flaps at 70 kt without being able to flare despite full yoke deflection.

    I had no time to dig too far into the TMD file yet: reducing engine power to the 82kW of the 235 Conti is not enough, there's obviously more to it, but if Jan is willing to support you I guess in no time you will bring the flight behaviour to the same standard as that gorgeous model.

    Please don't take me the wrong way, it is really meant to be constructive only and I'm very grateful for the work you share with us.
